Double Dal Tadka Recipe: How to make healthy, tasty and unique double dal tadka at home?

Dal is a word that is used in the Indian subcontinent and the areas around it to describe a dried, split lentil that needs to be cooked for consumption. This recipe is very unique as it is not just the regular dal tadka it is the recipe of double dal tadka. This recipe is the perfect example of how anything double is more fun. Double Dal Tadka Recipe

  • 1.5 cups Toor Dal
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Oil

First Tadka

  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 inch Ginger fine chopped
  • 8-10 cloves Garlic fine chopped
  • 2 Green Chilli fine chopped
  • 1 Onion fine chopped
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 2 Tomato fine chopped
  • 2 tbsp Water
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala Powder
  • Coriander Leaves fine chopped
  • 1/2 Lemon Juice
  • Salt Accoding to taste

Second Tadka

  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Red chilli Powder
  • 2 Red Chilli



  • Wash and soak toor dal for ½ hour.
  • Add soaked dal to cooker and add water.
  • Add salt, turmeric powder, oil and let it whistle for 2-3 times.

First Tadka

  • Heat a pan and add ghee.
  • Once ghee is a bit hot add cumin seeds, ginger, garlic, green chilli and mix well.
  • Now add onion and cook till onion becomes pink.
  • Now add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, tomato, salt.
  • Mix and cook till tomatoes are mushy.
  • Now add water and cook till tomatoes leaves oil from it.
  • After oil is released add dal, garam masala powder, coriander leaves,lemon juice and mix well.
  • Boil for 2 minutes and set it aside.

Second Tadka

  • Heat a pan and add ghee.
  • Once ghee is hot add asafoetida, cumin seeds, red chilli powder, red chilli and mix well
  • Now add the hot tadka to dal.

  • Don’t add too much salt as you have already added salt in dal.
