If you want, you can also use condensed milk instead of milk powder if you don’t want to use it. Since we have used milk powder, which is quite sweet, we won’t be adding any sugar here. If you taste this mixture with a little sugar, it will taste just like khoya and is very delicious.

Ingredients
  

For the Syrup:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • A pinch of saffron optional
  • A few drops of yellow food color optional

For the Stuffing:

  • 2 tablespoons fresh cream or whipped cream
  • 4 tablespoons milk powder
  • 2 tablespoons desiccated coconut or grated dry coconut
  • A pinch or two of cardamom powder
  • A handful of finely chopped nuts cashews, almonds, or nuts of your choice
  • For the Assembly:
  • Bread slices as needed
  • Coconut powder for coating
  • Orange food color drops for decoration optional

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Syrup:
  • In a pan, add 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water.
  • Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves and bring it to a boil.
  • Add a pinch of saffron for flavor and color, and cook on full flame for about 7-8 minutes.
  • Keep stirring to prevent the sugar from sticking to the bottom and burning.
  • Once it thickens slightly and is sticky but without threads, turn off the heat.
  • Add a few drops of yellow food color, if desired, and mix well. Set aside to cool.
  • Prepare the Bread:
  • Trim the edges of the bread slices using scissors or a knife, as they can be hard.
  • Place two slices together and cut them into square pieces. Ensure they are even for sandwiching.
  • Make the Stuffing:
  • In a bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of fresh cream, 4 tablespoons of milk powder, and 2 tablespoons of desiccated coconut.
  • Mix well until combined. If the mixture is too thick, add a little milk to achieve a thick consistency.
  • Add cardamom powder and finely chopped nuts, mixing thoroughly.
  • Assemble the Sandwiches:
  • Take one piece of bread and spread a layer of the stuffing on top.
  • Place another piece of bread on top and gently press to seal. Repeat for all pieces.
  • Dip and Coat:
  • Transfer the cooled syrup to a bowl. Dip each sandwich briefly in the syrup, coating all sides without soaking too much.
  • Roll the dipped sandwiches in coconut powder for an added layer of flavor and texture.
  • Decorate:
  • For decoration, you can place small drops of orange food color on top of each sandwich to enhance their appearance.
